A extended voyage circling the Australian Coast has been cancelled days after the tragic passing of an elderly woman who was stranded by the ship on a remote tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been trekking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the party for a pause. The liner sailed away leaving her and returned later that day after the ship staff became aware the lady was not present.

A major search operation discovered her body the following day.

Officials are looking into the event, alongside law enforcement and the state coroner.

The CEO of the shipping company said that travelers and staff on the vessel were told that the continuation of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and prior mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he further stated that guests would be provided a full refund, and said the company was working "to coordinate the travel back of the travelers via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also issued an updated statement, and said they had "issued a directive to the Master" preventing any additional guests from getting on the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would inspect the ship in the port city upon its coming back.

Timeline of Incidents

The ship originally sailed from Cairns on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the journey at the time of the senior passenger's demise. The tropical location was the initial destination on the voyage.

Travelers on the vessel - who typically pay large sums of currency to participate in the cruise - were ferried there for a shore visit with the possibility of walking or snorkelling.

Family Response

The daughter of the deceased woman said that her relatives was "stunned and grieved that the ship left the island after an planned excursion without my mother".

Through her comments, she portrayed her mum as an "energetic elderly person" who was a participant of a hiking club.

"According to scant details we have been informed, it looks that there was a breakdown of attention and common sense," she said.

She continued that she wished the inquiry would be able to determine what "the organization should have undertaken that might have preserved Mother's existence".
