The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
